WHY SOCIAL STRENGTH IS CREATED
Social Strength was created in response to the need for support that boys and men could genuinely engage with.
Some people do not respond well to support that feels overly formal, clinical or focused only on completing tasks. They may need time to build trust, connect through shared interests and develop confidence before they feel comfortable working towards larger goals.
Our approach combines professional knowledge with practical, everyday support. This may involve going to the gym, learning to cook, attending appointments, building a routine, joining a group, developing social confidence or simply having a consistent person who follows through.
The activity may begin the connection, but the purpose is always greater independence, confidence and participation.
WHO WE SUPPORT
Our specialist focus is supporting boys and men, including young people transitioning towards adulthood and adults seeking greater independence, confidence and community connection.
Participants may benefit from Social Strength when they are:
- socially isolated or lacking meaningful connection;
- finding it difficult to engage with traditional supports;
- wanting to build confidence in the community;
- developing daily-living or practical skills;
- working towards greater independence;
- needing support with routines, appointments or community participation;
- interested in joining structured social or capacity-building groups;
- looking for a mentor who can connect through shared interests while maintaining professional boundaries.
We recognise that every participant is different. We do not assume that the same worker, activity or approach will suit everyone.
OUR APPROACH
-
Relationship First Participants should have meaningful choice about who supports them. We carefully consider personality, interests, communication style, experience, location and participant preferences when matching workers.
-
Build Independence, Not Dependence Our role is to support people to develop skills, confidence and decision-making—not to take over unnecessarily.
-
Honest And Accountable We communicate openly, maintain professional boundaries and take responsibility for providing safe, reliable and respectful support.
-
Practical Support In Real Life Skills are often best developed through everyday experiences. Support may occur at home, in the community, at appointments, through recreation or within one of our structured groups.
-
The Right Fit Matters Participants should have meaningful choice about who supports them. We carefully consider personality, interests, communication style, experience, location and participant preferences when matching workers.
-
Strength-based And Trauma-informed We recognise existing strengths while remaining sensitive to a person’s experiences, communication needs and pace.

OUR TEAM
Social Strength workers are carefully selected for more than qualifications alone.
We look for reliability, maturity, sound judgement, professional boundaries and the ability to establish genuine relationships. Workers receive clear expectations, induction, supervision and support to deliver services in line with the Social Strength approach.
This means participants are not simply allocated an available support worker. We aim to identify someone who may genuinely suit the participant and their goals.
Let’s find the right support
Whether you are looking for support for yourself, a family member or someone you professionally support, we are happy to discuss what is needed and whether Social Strength may be the right fit.
